In celebrating this year's International Youth Day, UVIKIUTA and the hosting community has come with the project to raise awareness in the community and in particular in young people on the current burning issues i.e. There have been reported cases of killings of people with Albinism due to witchcraft beliefs; statistics have shown young people leading in numbers among those who are affected by HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmitted diseases.
Local and International volunteers will take advantage of this celebrations and gathering of young people in schools, clubs, etc. to send the message out to influence changes. Volunteers will have time to prepare traditional dances, music, songs to be performed in public. In the community already exist local groups and volunteer can learn as well to play drums (Jembe) and various local music instruments.

Volunteers will be accommodated in a school dormitory. They will be enough beds but for some volunteers will have mattresses lay down. Be prepped to share rooms. They will is water, toilets and bathrooms. Kindly pay attention for the stuff you have to bring to make your accommodation more comfortable and convenient for your needs. The project will have a full time staff to prepare meals for the volunteers. Vegetarian meals will be available and if you are having other special health/dietary needs inform the Project leader on arrival.

Volunteers will be participating in organising and coaching sports to the young people in the community. Painting and environmental cleaning will be extra activities. Volunteers are kindly requested to be flexible since the project can have some slight changes but if happen information will be provided in advance.
Study theme:
Human resources are the most important inputs in any production process. Once prepared and mobilised this recourse must be sustained. It must be protected from threats like HIV/AIDS, drugs, alcoholism and over population. Such resource must also be kept healthily ensuring adequate physical exercise (Games and sports). This project will also focus on how this can be in reality by involving young people in the community. Please bring information from your community for sharing.

UVIKIUTA is organising this international project at this time of the year to acknowledge the contribution made by Late Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, first president and founding father of the United Republic of Tanzania for the National unity. Mwalimu Nyerere died on 14th October 1999 and since then the day has become public holiday and peak of the National Youth week. Various youth activities are organised across the country to mark this day every year. This project in particular will have the following objectives: To promote Youth Leadership in advancing culture of peace and understanding; to inspire volunteers and the community members to respect human dignity and individuality; to empower Youth to take initiative to bring about positive change; to advocate Youth action for community change; to promote Youth participation and communication from different cultural backgrounds and getting together to realise each other’s common dreams.
The project is expecting to attract a good number of volunteers from different cultural, economic and professional backgrounds coming from all continents around the world. In order to realise its objectives, the following activities will be carried out.
Community volunteer service - This will be the most dynamic activity which will bring the true meaning of labour, cooperation and achievements. We will be working in the community for at least 4-6 hours five days a week. Volunteers will rotate in various projects which have been identified by the community. Since in the preparation stage some projects might have slight changes due to reasons such as availability of materials, weather and number of volunteers applying. You will be updated. Below is the list of volunteer activities we are aiming at.
Housing and Environment - Tree planting, beautifying surroundings, rebuilding damaged houses and toilets. Hospital and Health - Volunteers will help in a wide range of sections including nursing, first aid, occupational therapy, dental services, and medical assistance, hospital cleanses etc. Sports, Arts and Music - The program will involve teachers and children, Youth in School and out of school. Volunteers will organise trainings, Coaching sports and various games. Both International and local volunteer will participate in music and art like learning various Swahili and traditional songs, play drams (Jembe), dancing, etc.
Workshops:
Three workshops will be organised through out the project to encourage the participants to gain awareness of the theme of this project, United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the role of Youth in this society.
