The Power of Language in the promotion of peace and understanding.
Work:
Volunteers will be helping young people with special needs to learn English language during their school holidays. Volunteers wishing to teach French and other foreign languages to the community are welcome to show the power of language. We need information in advance so that we can ask those who are interested to learn. International volunteers wishing to learn Kiswahili (our national language) and its culture should request in advance that option.
Educational activities:
Volunteers will attend workshop on the role language in development especially in the promotion of peace and understanding. What influence language has in development? What is going to be the future of less spoken languages in the world on globalisation? Kindly bring information and materials for teaching from your country. Volunteers will celebrate Christmas with orphanages. We would like to fundraise from all volunteers to contribute US$10 each so that we can make a big lunch with the kids and organise some activities like music and sports.
Note:
All volunteers are required to prepare before their arrival to participate fully in the education activities. Kindly please bring more information from your country/Community.
Free time activities:
Visits will be organized to enable volunteers to understand social, cultural and economic realities of the area.

« I can say that the best things about the workcamp and this whole experience were the chance of making a real difference to the lives of very needy children. This is an extremely valuable project where volunteers can have a massive impact. Also the possibility of learning a huge amount about a country so different from our own. I learnt ten times as much by carrying out a workcamp than I would ever do backpacking. »
