THEME:
Cultural heritage of the pastoralist Maasai community.
ORIENTATION:
9 July 2010. Orientation for all the volunteers will be done on 9 July 2010 from 9 am at the KVDA Residence in Kilimani-Nairobi and all the volunteers must attend in order to initiate the much-needed teamwork. It will entail, introduction, team building and group formation, visit to residential estates for both privileged (the elite) and the under-privileged (slum dwellers) to grasp and understand poverty levels in global south, psychological preparation and set out possible interventions. KVDA will be responsible for meals and accommodation for volunteers during the one-day orientation sessions.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS:
Volunteers will travel as a team to the camp site one day after the Orientation training takes place. At the end of the work camp Volunteers will travel together back to Nairobi. Transport to and from the work camp will be organized by KVDA.
AIRPORT TRANSFER:
Transfers on arrival to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and departure from Kenya will be done by KVDA. Flight confirmation MUST be done by e-mail with full flight details provided. On arrival volunteers will be taken to KVDA residential.
Accommodation in Nairobi:
Volunteers will be accommodated at KVDA Residence at a fee of Euros 5 for bed only. Meals will be served on order.
Accommodation and meals at the project:
KVDA provides locally available foodstuffs and the volunteers prepare their own meals in turns. However, volunteers are encouraged to showcase their food culture during the culture night designated for every nationality represented at the project and welcome them to carry exotic foodstuffs for the occasion to enhance cultural diversity. Volunteers will be accommodated in classrooms or a house provided by the host Community.
Hosting Costs:
- Airport Transfers (Transfer to and from Airport) - Euro 30. - Participation fee (Meals at the project + KVDA administrative expenses) - Euro 150. - Orientation day (One day orientation with full board including a Nairobi slums tour) - Euro 30. - Transport (To and from the workcamp) - Euro 40.

This is an extremely valuable project where volunteers can have a massive impact. Also the possibility of learning a huge amount about a country so different from our own.
