Esiarambatsi Health Center is a community health institution initiated by the local community members to promote their health wellbeing. The local community used to walk several kilometers before they could access a health facility as a result most of them lost their lives due to this. The area is one of the hard ship areas in Kenya and the dispensary is understaffed hence a load to the doctor in charge who has the responsibility to ensure that all community members are served with quality services. Since the establishment of the institution it has enabled many of the community members to be involved in productive activities thus ensuring that their children are able to attend school due to good health.
The health institution also offers an opportunity where the community members come together to enhance the process of implementation of community development activities and thus champion on a common course that is to improve the living standards of the local community members. The initiation of Esiarambatsi Health Center came in handy with the many challenges that affect the community. Their struggles can be defined as follows: Alcoholism, drug and substance abuse; unreliable and unevenly distributed rainfall; early pregnancy for teenage girls.
The majority of community members are subsistence farmers whose harvest in not even enough to cater for the wellbeing of their families for a session. Due to poor farming techniques there has been a series of environmental degradation, with which has come up several diseases that have affected the children such as malnutrition.

Usife Moyo Women Group is a community based organization which was established in 2005 to spearhead community driven development initiatives and women empowerment. It also integrates different affiliated community groups to participate in development projects. Women are the centre of empowerment to urbanize their own community.
Vision - Better future and right livelihood for families and individuals in our village, to protect women rights and children. Mission - To facilitate needy community groups into action through integrated activities and support to orphans and vulnerable children through home based care and community projects Objectives - The purpose of the organization is to provide education amongst the OVC population, promote the place of women within the community and to promote economic empowerment amongst youth and women in within.

Academic development, capacity building of members and community groups, developing microfinance initiatives within the community.

Time management and efficiency; Developing a Business plan; Developing financial statements; Money management and project planning (as well as looking at the obstacles faced in their current projects); Developing strategies for writing grant proposals (keeping in mind that you cannot rely on grants for operation); Community outreach and recruitment; Microfinance and reallocation of physical labour importance; Transparency/Accountability, Budgeting and Communication- Functioning like a CBO.

Youth Empowerment Program/Microfinance Development
Project background:
Kipepeo Community Empowerment Program is a community Based Organization initiated in October 2009 to help spearhead community driven development initiatives and enable needy community groups participate in integrated development to achieve quality livelihood from; orphanage and rehabilitation of street children, support vulnerable children, voluntary work to various community projects, Community Savings and loaning , HIV/AIDS trainings & awareness Campaigns, Capacity Building, Organic Farming, Fish Farming, Clay Works, Computer Services and Eco-Tourism and Environmental Management.
The program is also designed to respond to Emuhaya youths’ needs and assets; the KCEP Project aims to empower youth to make sound career and life decisions as they transition from high school to the next phase of their lives. The project is also building the capacity of local institutions and networks to sustain the much needed services that KCEP will provide. Specifically, the KCEP Project intends to offers youth a series of inter-connected interventions to: build skills, facilitate appropriate career choices, provide employment and/or income generating opportunities, bridge technical and university education opportunities and provide fun and safe spaces.

Kipawa Community Resource Center is a community Based Organization initiated in June 2011 to help spearhead community driven development initiatives and enable needy community groups participate in integrated development to achieve quality livelihood. The Kipawa Community Resource Center is based in Kathonzweni Eastern Province, Kenya. Its mission is to establish sustainable initiatives on community education, agriculture, health care, income generation, environment, orphans/widows and youth led affairs.
Project activities:
Orphan feeding program; Capacity building, training in Leadership and group Management skills; Placement of volunteers to various groups with different activities in relation to their skills and interest; Mobilization of community groups into savings and loaning- initiation of community based micro finance; Environmental management and conservation; HIV/AIDS awareness, management, training and Home Based Care; Internal and external inter cultural exchange programs; Organic farming and protection of indigenous plants; Computer Services, Typesetting, Printing and photocopying to the community. This will enhance the process of enhancing computer literacy and informational technology among the local people; Community library to promote literacy; Business Development Services.

Kipawa provides opportunities for individuals to participate in community development thorough volunteer placements. We have vacancies in the fields of teaching, working with physically challenged children, youth and women groups, micro-finance, HIV/AIDS programs and environmental conservation.

The home was started in 2002 and it’s situated in Kayole Eastland’s part of Nairobi. They have a total of 75 orphans; they take children who are neglected by their parents, those who are thrown away, and those whose parents are dead. The orphans range from 4 months to 20 years. They go to a nearby school in Umoja, where they commute every day.

basic needs provision, academic development; guidance and counseling; career development initiatives.

Playing with kids after school. Babysitting the small kids; Feeding the children; General cleaning [washing clothes, bathing the kids, cleaning their rooms, changing the babies diapers] all this will be done by the help of the workers in the orphanage; Helping to prepare meals and washing the dishes; Since they have a cow the volunteer can help in feeding the cow; Taking the children to school especially the small ones.

Nairobi Children’s Home is a Government Institution under the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Development. It is run by the Children’s Department. The Home was established in 1989 as a rescue centre and place of safety. The home has a capacity of 60 children but the population fluctuates from time to time. The influx is largely attributed to the breakdown of social norms, high poverty rate and HIV/AIDS scourge. It is the only Government Institution taking care of children in need of care and protection in their formative age that is 0-6 years. It stands on an eight acres piece of land. It vision is of a society where children become responsible citizens through fulfillment of their prescribed rights and welfare. Its main mission is to safeguard the rights and welfare of all children in Kenya through implementation of relevant policies, coordination, supervision and delivery of services.
Project activities:

The health facility built on 4 acres plot was initiated during the colonial era in 1940’s by the community with the aim of enabling the local people to have access to medication. The health center has the capacity to cater for 700 patients on a daily basis and it has 5 medical staff members including two casual workers. There is a building housing the main hospital and currently the maternity wing is under construction plus two staff houses.
