Construction of housing after flood damage, installing windows, painting, cleaning around buildings.. An intercultural programme will also be organised. Environmental work is also planned (tree planting).
Buterere is a fairly new but relatively poor suburb of Bujumbura. It is built on a flat plain which is liable to flooding.
Project:
Buterere is near to the airport and volunteers will be met and given a short orientation on arrival.
Accommodation is at the office/ home of ABSV.
Bring a sleeping bag or roll mattress, mosquito net, insect repellent and basic medical items.
There will be opportunities to visit the city, the beach on the shore of Lake Tanganyika and the very scenic route to the interior of the country.
work to lay on water supply to housing in Kinama which is a highly populated suburb of Bujumbura.
This project includes a basic course in Swahili and social contacts in the community.
